Is Your Biotech Startup Really Ready for VC Funding?
Most first-time biotech founders have incredible science. But when it comes to raising a Seed or Series A round, the science isn’t usually the problem.
The real challenge? Understanding how VCs actually evaluate risk and opportunity – and knowing where your company stands before you start pitching.

Here’s What Usually Happens
You’ve spent years developing breakthrough research. Your technology works. You know your science inside and out.
But when you start talking to VCs, something feels off.
You get vague responses like “Interesting work… let’s keep in touch” or “We’ll circle back in a few months.” The feedback doesn’t help you improve. And you’re left wondering what you’re missing.
Here’s the truth: VCs aren’t just evaluating your science. They’re scoring you on risk signals, team credibility, and market positioning- often in ways they don’t explicitly tell you.
What if you could see your company through their eyes and fix the weak spots before they become deal-breakers?
I’ve Been on Both Sides of This Table
My name is Fabio.
For over 15 years, I’ve worked in biotech – advising global pharma companies, guiding investors, and helping founders bring breakthrough therapies to market.
I’ve seen brilliant science fail to raise capital for completely preventable reasons. And I’ve watched founders waste months (sometimes years) pitching to the wrong investors or pitching the right investors the wrong way.
Early in my career, I experienced the “pitch and pray” approach myself. I thought great science would speak for itself. It doesn’t.
Over time, I learned that VC funding doesn’t always go to the best science-it goes to companies that are structured to match what early-stage investors are looking for. There are specific signals they want to see.
So I worked with experienced biotech VCs to reverse-engineer those signals.
My background: BSc and MSc in Biomedical Engineering from the Polytechnic University of Turin, and an Engineering Doctorate in Biopharmaceutical Process Development from Newcastle University. But more importantly, I’m passionate about helping founders translate science into clear, investable business stories.

Here’s what you get:
- See your company as investors see it – Score yourself across 10 key criteria that VCs use to make funding decisions
- Identify your weak spots – Find the hidden issues that could quietly derail your round, even if your science is strong
- Test improvement scenarios – Run “what-if” scenarios to see exactly how changes would improve your score
- Get actionable next steps – No vague advice—just clear priorities for what to fix first
- Save months of wasted effort – Stop guessing what investors want and show up prepared
- No complicated software. No jargon. Just a simple Excel tool you can use immediately.
How This Changes Your Fundraising
Instead of walking into pitches wondering what investors are thinking, you’ll know:
- Which parts of your story are strong
- Where you’re vulnerable to investor skepticism
- Exactly what to address before your next meeting
You’ll pitch with confidence because you’ve already done the work VCs wish every founder would do.
The result? Faster fundraising. Better conversations. Less stress.
